Volunteers wanted for Mobility Cup
Harding Medical Mobility Cup 2007 is seeking volunteers for a work party, Saturday August 25th. It is at that time that CN Rail will be delivering the 18-20 Martin 16’s for use in the regatta.
We are hoping the membership of Dartmouth Yacht Club would be interested in joining that team. Our information is that at least 6-8 bodies would do the job. More than that would of course be welcome. A brief description of the evolution follows.
Each tractor trailer unit will deliver at least four boats secured on their trailers, possibly five boats. A tilt load tow truck will be used to pull the boats out of the container, then lower to the ground. The work party wheels the boat to a staging area where more hands would unpack from shipment and rig for sail. All boats are to arrive with complete gear and rigging onboard.
We anticipate four or five trucks arriving, each within an hour of one another. If past events are any indication, a bit of coordinated teamwork is needed to make this run smoothly. We will also be responsible for getting those same boats ready for safe, secure transport back the same way they arrived on Saturday, September 1st. That date may be moved to Sunday, September 2nd but we will advise appropriately. We would also be holding at least one meeting beforehand to go over the procedure and such.
We have a pdf with complete instructions for securing these boats for travel. That will be disseminated beforehand. Any cost to ensure those boats are secured properly will be met by Mobility Cup.
If you are interested in helping us with this worthwhile endeavour, please don’t hesitate to contact me. On behalf of the Harding Medical Mobility Cup 2007 and Sail Able, I want to thank you for everything you have done for us thus far. This is going to be a great event and I can’t wait to show off our fabulous new home!
