Hello to all members, volunteers and interested persons!! I thought I send you all an update with the latest happenings with Sail Able and I must say there is a lot. Our Annual General Meeting went well in December although not as well attended as we had hoped for. Nonetheless we made quick work of the business at hand. I will get right to it and give you the promised update.
1: Sail Able is relocating! After extensive talks with the Dartmouth Yacht Club we will be moving there in the spring of 2007. The cost is nominally more for Sail Able but will not affect individual member fees. As the sailing season unfolds you will all be advised of what changes might affect your sailing experience. In reality, little to no change other than the location and facilities.
2: Sail Able along with Dartmouth Yacht Club is hosting Mobility Cup 2007. This is Canada's premier disabled sailing regatta and will be here August 30th - Sept 2nd. There is already a committee at work, co-chaired by our very own Paul Tingley. This is a huge undertaking, one that will require as many volunteers in as many areas as possible. Fund raising is the first and largest challenge, in addition to the actual setting up, taking down and everything else in between. We are looking for anyone associated to Sail Able to contact either myself or Paul Tingley to make themselves available. So, calling all Sail Able members and volunteers!! We need your expertise, your effort and most of all your visible involvement. In order to better facilitate getting the funding and sponsorship we need, the more of our disabled members out there in the public (and corporate) view the better for us all. We hope that the legacy from this outstanding event will come to us in the form of a Martin 16 of our own. These are the type of boats used in this and most disabled sailing regattas but they are not just for competitive sailing. They are also ideal for the leisure sailor too, either solo or with a companion. Check out our website www.sailable.ca for links to the Mobility Cup. Stay tuned and get involved. This is the perfect opportunity for Sail Able to make the next step forward and ensure the long term survival and growth of our program. Thank you and I hope to hear from lots of you in the near future. We will keep you abreast of all developments and happenings. The Mobility Cup committee has started the ball rolling, now it is your turn to get involved.
