What steps do I need to go through to winterize an outboard motor? My owner's manual is in French which is of NO use to me.

Flush engine thoroughly with fresh water. (Water pump, etc) Disconnect fuel line and run engine until it burns all the fuel in the carb(s).(Be sure to have fresh water running through water pump.) Fog engine with preservative through intake and/or spark plug hole(s). Drain and refill gearbox oil. Wipe outside clean and dry. Remove prop and grease bare shaft, cables, moving parts. Disconnect battery, fully charge it and store in a warm dry place, recharging it every month. or: Google your brand and model for info- like: www.nissanmarine.com/tech_talk/pdf_files/000003.pdf... or just take it to the shop and have them do it for you ;-) In no way am I implying that this is everything you have to do... just a quick overview. There are a host of safety precautions, etc. that I haven't even mentioned. Also, a four stroke engine will be a little different.

Thanks Glenn:
Myabe I should have specified that my motor is a Honda 2hp 4 Stroke. I bought it for the trip earlier this year but in reality it's served only as an expensive decoration.

OK.....things have changed a bit for me on this issue. My extremely undersatnding girlfriend (Charlene) has no problem with me keeping the motor in the bedroom for the winter. So right now it's serving double-duty as a boot rack. When I go for my winter sails I'll take the motor but don't want to use it as I'll have to flush out the silly thing again.

Spring is here and the extremely understanding girlfriend is now my fiancee and we're set to be wed on October 20.
We've also bought a new house and the motor is no longer a boot rack and to make a perfect world even more perfect........it actually turned over for me the other day. Now I just hope it works when it's supposed to.
