As you can tell from the title of the thread I have two ideas that I would like to get some feedback on to see if there is sufficient interest to follow up on.
First, for our cruising community I am wondering if there is an interest in arranging a summer cruise in July or August, or possibly both that would allow cruisers to sail in company to some of the waters around NS, visiting sister yacht clubs. I am envisioning something that might take folks around to Digby one year and back or up to the Cape Breton and the Straights the next. This concept is a non-racing mutual supporting flotilla event open to all metro club members to participate in. We could use the DYC as a base for organizational purposes, and see how it develops from there. Who knows, we might even get the p-p-p, get the pow-pow-pow, to heck with it, get the stink pots involved.
The other idea is to start another Ocean Race for some time in July or early August. I'm thinking this might be held over a long weekend in summer and might start at the same time as the rally if there was interest in combining the events, with white sail and spinnaker divisions. If not it could be held as a separate event.
Once again I would like to tie it into a two race affair with one of the the other NS clubs as the ultimate destination, and then a return race from that club to DYC. The other hosting club could then race the leg back to DYC, and be hosted by us. We would then give them a race start back to there own club. Thus it would be a three legged race, with each club participating in 2 of the 3 legs, with separate awards. If logistically this proved too difficult it could be simplified into a there and back one leg event similar to the Silver Sail or Convoy Cup, but I am not envisioning an in the harbour race for this, but a pure off shore race. The turning point might be somewhere to the north east rather than the south shore for variety's sake.
So my question is does anyone want to discuss these ideas and see if we can get anything going?
