My name is Don, and I'm the proud owner of a 1986 Sandpiper 565 sail # 1162. At this point I keep the boat in my driveway, but I'm trying to decide on a home club......preferably somewhere with clean sailing waters and a good launch for dry sailing. I've owned 4 sailboats, starting with a new 17' Siren back in 1983. then a 12' kolbi, on to a CL14 and now the Sandpiper. From 1999 to 2004 I crewed on 1st, a Viking 28 & then a Mirage 33, out of RNSYS and SMSC. I have belonged to the Canadian Power & Sail Squadron since 2000 and have taken courses/seminars up to the AP level.

Hi Don,
Have you checked out the boat ramp at DYC? The dock has been slow to be put in because it is usually only used for junior sail trianing in July and Augusr, but I understand that is being addressed by the club executive to have it in the water longer. I have sent a letter to the Rear Commodore inthis issue. One of the things the club is trying to do is support the idea of trailer sailing out of the club. When the keel boats are launched there is plenty of parking space and when they come out on the hard in the winter the trailer boats move back home.
Hope you come join us,
Brian Pickton

Hi Brian... In the past I wasn't crazy about sailing in the Basin. The area from the Arm..around to downtown and over to MacNabs & Lawler Islands, plus out to Chebucto Head seemed more interesting. But...now that I sail a much smaller boat and tend to be affected by the larger swells out past MacNabs (don't even ask about the Sambro Channel) it might be time to re-think. I want to divide my sailing between fresh water (Porters Lake/Grand Lake) and salt ..(St. Margaret's Bay/Mahone Bay with the odd road trip to the Bras d'Or Lakes). At this point I haven't decided what club/location would be most convenient for me.
